Old as Beer

Did you know it took more than 231 millions gallons of beer to build the Pyramid of Giza? Yes, beer. Beer was money (in Ancient Egypt as in various cultures) and a vital source of nutrition. Egyptians laborers were paid a gallon of beer a day.

Egyptian beer contained the antibiotic tetracycline (formed by bacterial action during fermentation). Alas, the bacteria is nonexistent in today’s beer due to pasteurization- which makes any argument for self-medication with beer futile : )

Beer is also an international beverage and often served in "growlers" (pitcher/jug that can hold up to half-gallon of draft beer for home consumption). Remember: everything tastes better when shared.
